The effect of age and gender on the metabolic disposal of [1-13C]palmitic acid
Article Abstract:
Palmitic acid is the most predominant saturated fatty acid in the UK diet present in the form of mixed dietary triacylglycerols. It is therefore important to consider the impact of age and gender on the metabolic disposal of [1-13C] palmitic acid. It has been established that children oxidize almost twice the amount of [1-13C] palmitic acid as adults. There is also higher net fat oxidation in children than in adults in both the postabsorptive and postprandial states. Age and possibly gender are factors which determine a person's ability to handle dietary fat.

Are awareness of dietary fat intake and actual fat consumption associated?: A Dutch-American comparison
Article Abstract:
A significant number of adults in the Netherlands and the US are unaware of their own levels of fat consumption, with surveys showing that personal fat intake is generally underestimated by the Dutch but overestimated by the Americans. Both Dutch and American women generally underestimated their fat intake. Better-educated people were most likely to estimate their fat intake most accurately. Both Dutch and Americans claimed they wanted to reduce their dietary fat, but the Dutch were approximately four times less likely to plan change than the Americans.
